Barcelona and the Beautiful People

Gary Carmell Barcelona Vacation Pictures

Barcelona has been on my bucket list. I was heading to Europe for another reason but decided to tack on visiting the city to the beginning of my trip. I flew through Istanbul and since I’m a big fan of naps I thought I would take this picture to show my support for this activity (or inactivity).

A Reunion of Reflection

Central School 8th Grade Class of 1979

This post will be a little self-indulgent, as it will not touch on anything related to real estate, interest rates, or economics. It is inspired by my recent attendance at the 40th reunion of my eighth-grade class.

Sickness, Grit, Reliability, and Variable Rate Loans

mental toughness

Roneet used to say that you have to be healthy in order to be sick. She was spot on. I, fortunately, don’t get sick very much but last week was one in which I was fighting my annual cold. It usually lasts five to seven days and then I’m back to good health.

Never Stop Questioning

Never Stop Questioning Gary Carmell

It was my great pleasure and honor to attend my daughter’s high school graduation last week. It was such a beautiful and moving ceremony and a tremendous accomplishment for her. She truly gave blood, sweat, and tears to get to this point. The ceremony was steeped in tradition as she graduated from a girls school that was founded in 1889.

The Philosophical Investor Proud Papa Holiday Family Update

With the holidays coming up, I thought I would focus on a more personal blog entry this week, especially as this was a special week for our family. In my upcoming book The Philosophical Investor: Transforming Wisdom into Wealth (March 17, 2015 publication date) I discuss the power of partnership and how one plus one can really add up to more than two.

Mass Movements-What Charlie Hebdo Taught us About Being True Believers

Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements

While I usually try to avoid controversial subjects because of the emotions that can be stirred, I do feel the need to address the horrific events that took place at in France this week with the slaughter of a dozen people at Charlie Hebdo,
