PIMCO on Housing - Not Enough

PIMCO has come out with a research report suggesting that the housing recovery may take longer to ripple through the economy due to a variety of factors. That is less interesting to me than the authors’ assertion that “New residential construction needs to double from 2012 levels to meet long-run stable demand…” This is consistent with my previous post citing research from the Federal Reserve that pent up demand for housing created during the recession would indicate that new household formations could be in the 1.5 million range through 2017. These two reports corroborates our thinking is that we’re just not building enough housing.
